Power of Social Media is about Offline People not Networks!

By Brian Fanzo,

November 10, 2014
For those that know me, know that I am in a technology geek, an early adopter of every gadget, tool and device that I can possibly get my hands on. Not to mention I am not shy about telling the story of how social media drastically transformed my career and how the friendships and conversations I’ve had on social also drastically impacted my life.

So you might be surprised to hear that for as passionate as I am for technology and social media, the true power of social media for doesn’t happen on a device or a social network.

The Power of Social Media is about People not Networks!

Yes the power of social, leverages, social, technology and all forms communication to create conversations that lead to relationships that ultimately lead to one giant HUG!

It’s not about the number of followers you have or raising your Klout score or making it on some list, it’s about connecting and finding people who make you better! I’ve been extremely blessed to have my life and career transformed thanks to social media and at the IBM insight event this week I was lucky enough to meet some of those people face to face for the first time.

These face to face meetings with social friends aren’t awkward or filled with small talk, they are started with a HUG, a big smile and pure excitement as if we were best friends that hadn’t seen each other in years.

So I ask you to embrace the “Power Of Social” by not focusing on what social network is the best or if you should be using TSU or ELLO, rather seek out conversations and build relationships with people, so that when you meet in real life for the first time, you can experience the feeling I’ve been so fortunate to have many times this year!
