How To Use IFTTT to Send Your Instagram Photos to Twitter

By Shelly Kramer,

December 11, 2012
ifttt recipe to share instagram photos to twitterWe wrote yesterday about Instagram shutting down Twitter access and lots of people were sad. Or pissed off. I know I take photos on Instagram all the time and share them—both on Facebook and Twitter—so it got me to wondering whether or not my IG behavior would change as a result.

Then along came Abdullah Al-Hakim, one of my favorite bloggy friends and all around super smart guy. Have I mentioned lately that I love smart people? And when they read the V3 blog and leave comments that help me get smarter, I love them even more (hint, hint). And Abdullah can always be counted on for great conversation, salient thoughts and equally as often, a laugh or two.

But I digress…back to Instagram shutting off photo sharing to Twitter. Abdallah commented on that post and pointed us to a recipe created for IFTTT (a fantastic platform that we’ve written about that you should most definitely check out) that allows you to share your photos directly from Instagram to Twitter. Think of it as a loophole—a brilliant, timely loophole—that will help keep your Instagram to Twitter sharing habits intact.

The IFTTT recipe is below. I’m not sure if it works yet—I just connected it and we’re checking it out. Give it a try and let us know if it works for you.

IFTTT Recipe: Share Instagram Photos to Twitter

One quick note? You’ll need to have an IFTTT account that’s connected to your Instagram and Twitter accounts to activate the recipe, so be sure those components are set up before you get started. Plus, when you do activate the recipe, you’ll be able to edit your settings, such as the information you want to tweet when you share a photo (caption, date taken, image URL, etc.).

Big thanks to @abdallahalhakim for the tip!
