We’ve had a crazy busy summer here at V3 and every year our crop of interns just gets more fantastic. We are so lucky! I’ve been meaning to write and brag about them all summer and now (because I’m a loser), the summer has slipped away and they’re heading back to school, beer, partying, um, studying and working their fingers to the bone.
The very BEST thing about our interns this summer? They’re all Jayhawks!!! And goodness, does that irritate Katy to no end. Not my fault that all these great people stalked us and relentlessly pursued internships—but she blames me nonetheless. Rock. Chalk.
The good thing? Even though school is starting again, some of our interns are going to stick around this semester, so we’re doubly lucky. Don’t you want to know who they are? Here goes….
Griffin Davis
KU graduate, Journalism and Strategic Communication
I hired Griffin because he sent me the most amazing introductory email ever. In fact, I immediately responded and told him, sight unseen, that the job was his. I love this guy! Griffin is a video genius, a great writer and eager to do anything that’ll give him the opportunity to learn and grow. What’s not to like about that?
Throughout college, Griffin worked for Kansas Athletics as a cameraman and instant replay operator for the Allen Fieldhouse video board. He created highlight videos for football and basketball games, and channeled his love of video production and photography into work for V3.
Earlier this summer (and because I sent him the lead) (I’m nice like that) Griffin landed a job with the Google Fiber marketing team here in Kansas City—and we couldn’t be more proud! We could have tried to lure him to work with us full time, but in all honesty, an opportunity working for The Google—who am I to get in the way of that? I’m so very proud of him.
Neha Wahid
Soon-to-be KU junior, Marketing
Katy and I met Overland Park native Neha Wahid when I spoke earlier this year at a KU PRSA meeting. She immediately impressed us with her smarts when we chatted after the presentation and we hired her as soon as she let us know she was interested in an internship. We love Neha.
Neha is a talented writer with an enviable work ethic—she doesn’t meet deadlines, she beats them, and never hesitates to step up and accept additional responsibility. Right now, she says she’s most interested in the overlap between marketing and PR, but expects to identify a more specific career path as she continues her education and professional experience. And of course we’ll be leaning on her to stick around as long as we can.
And also? Keep your eye on the bookshelves—Neha’s dream job is to write and publish a bestselling novel some day, and if anyone can do it, she’s the one.
Sarah Nettels
Soon-to-be KU senior, French and Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communication
You may have already met Sarah last year on the V3 blog—she loved us so much that she came back for another summer. Not until, of course, she finished traipsing through France for a semester (which caused us to curse her soundly and often).
Not only is Sarah a quick learner and possessed of a quick sense of humor (pretty key around these parts), she proved that she can quickly conquer and control my jungle of an inbox (something I can’t manage to do), and she’s also a terrific writer.
Sarah has one of the more creative career plans I’ve seen. She’d like to host her own travel show—think No Reservations, but instead of focusing on food, she wants to showcase up-and-coming bands from around the world. Pretty cool, right?
See? I wasn’t joking when I said we had an amazing group of interns this summer! It’s always tough to see them go, but exciting to see where their paths lead—and know there’s a chance we could see them again down the road!
