The change sparked some initial confusion, as Facebook requested that profile photos be sized at 180 x 180 pixels. After the photo was uploaded, however, Facebook resized the image to 125 x 125 pixels, so you should notice a difference in size.
Additionally, the profile photos will be placed differently in conjunction with the cover photo. Profile photos will now appear 23 pixels from the left and 210 pixels from the top. This handy graphic from Inside Facebook gives you a visual guide to the change.
In light of the change, we recommend taking a moment to check your page in case you need to re-upload your profile photo. If you’ve used profile and cover photos that complement each other, you may also want to check to see that the adjusted placement still works for your selected images.
According to Inside Facebook, the new profile photo dimensions will go into effect sometime today. Just what we all need, right? A reason to spend even more time on Facebook than we already do!
Larger profile photos have already appeared on personal Facebook profiles, as The Next Web reports. If you’ve noticed that the change has gone into effect on your own Facebook page, verify that the new layout still works if you “have a unique Timeline design that relies on a smaller profile image,” writes Matt Brian for The Next Web.
Keeping up with Facebook is nothing short of a full-time job! Have you noticed if your personal or business pages have larger profile photos?
