And in the spirit of the conference’s focus on social media, the prospective host cities are battling it out for Facebook votes in a bracket-style competition that’s reminiscent of March Madness.
First-round voting kicked off earlier this week, and today, it’s Kansas City’s turn in the hot seat against Cleveland. Facebook voting is open until 10:59 p.m. CST tonight, so if you live in or love Kansas City, take a few seconds and give us a click!
Our across-the-state neighbor, St. Louis, was victorious against Waterloo, Iowa, earlier this week. If When Kansas City wins today, we’ll be featured in the next round of voting on April 4.
This year marks the third annual SoMeT Symposium, which unites “destination marketing organizations, hotels, resorts, attractions and any other tourism-related entities sharing ideas and learning more about how social media is affecting promotion within the travel industry,” according to SoMeT’s Tumblr page.
The cool thing about SoMeT is that it takes the interactive conference experience to a whole new level. Not only do attendees get to weigh in on decisions like the conference’s host city, but they’ll also get to help choose session topics and presenters.
If you’re a digital marketer with travel and tourism clients, we definitely recommend checking out SoMeT. And in the meantime, we’d appreciate any support for our hometown. The City of Fountains is ready and waiting to roll out the red carpet (and dish up some barbecue) for SoMeT attendees, so please help us make it happen!
Good luck, KC!
